Collaborative robot maker Rethink shuts down

작성자 : Aeyoung Park 2018-10-10 | 조회 : 877

Rethink Robotics, a company known for making collaborative robots Sawyer and Baxter, shut down Oct. 3.

CEO Scott Eckert first confirmed the news in an email to The Robot Report.

"We were pioneers and innovators in the industry and responsible for the creation of the collaborative robot category, but unfortunately we didn't quite achieve the market success we had intended," Eckert wrote.

The Boston-based company was founded in 2008, and was known for its easy-to-use robots, some with smiling faces, designed to collaborate with human workers.

The Boston Globe quoted a robotics expert who said the company ran into financial trouble when a major order from China failed to materialize.

Several plastics injection molders have purchased the Sawyer and Baxter robots.
