Recycled plastic to be used in gardens
By Jeremy Venosta
Recycled plastic is being used instead of timber to provide a more environmentally friendly option for gardeners.
Celebrity horticulturalist Stephen Ryan was in Delacombe to debut a e-wood on Sunday. Mr Ryan visited the The Soil Yard to talk about the product, made of recycled plastic, which can be used for decks, garden edges and boxes in the backyard. It is made from recycled computers, televisions, old printers, car dashboards and other plastic rubbish.
The process to make them is also not carbon intensive. Mr Ryan said it was a quality product that provided a good alternative to wood. “It is the perfect timber alternative for garden beds,” he said. “It will do a great job that timber can do, it can be cut, it can be drilled and you can screw it together however you want.” Mr Ryan said it was not a cheaper product, but it has many lasting benefits. “You do pay as much as you do for timber, but it leaves trees standing in the forest, and it looks good.”
