Despite persistent inflationary pressures still impacting the consumer spending and domestic demand, as well as the subdued outlook for external demand expected to further dampen trade prospects, the German economy will have a slight improvement with a projected real GDP growth of 0.8% in 2024, forecasts GlobalData. The data and analytics company’s latest report, “Macroeconomic Outlook Report: Germany,” says that the imposition of sanctions on Russia severely affected the German economy, as it was the largest European buyer of Russian oil and gas, resulting in disruptions in the supply chain, high energy prices, increased construction costs, deteriorating financial conditions, and a decline in disposable income.Germany's economic growth is significantly challenged by high inflation, which soared from 3.1% in 2021 to 6.9% in 2022. It is anticipated to remain elevated at 6.2% in 2023. In Q1 2023, Germany's real GDP growth remained stagnant following a revised 0.5% contraction in Q4 2022. Two out of the four quarters of 2022 saw a contraction in real GDP.Sector-wise, financial intermediation, real estate, and business activities contributed 25.7% to the gross value added (GVA) in 2022, followed by the mining, manufacturing, and utilities (23.4%), and wholesale, retail trade and hotels (11.5%).According to GlobalData, in nominal terms, the three sectors are forecast to grow by 4.8%, 4.8% and 5.4% in 2023, respectively, compared to 5.6%, 5.6%, and 6.3% in 2022.On the external side, GlobalData projects German exports to experience a slower growth rate of 2.6% in 2023, in contrast to the average growth of 10.7% observed during 2021-22. Similarly, imports are also expected to grow at a slower pace of 5.6% in 2023, compared to an average of 14% over the past two years. This deceleration in imports can be attributed to currency depreciation and reduced disposable income.Positive signs for the industrial sectorGermany's industrial output contracted by an average of 2.2% during March to July 2022 but recovered with an average growth rate of 1.2% from August to December 2022. In the first two months of 2023, it experienced a modest 0.5% increase. The positive trend in the industrial output from August 2022 onwards and a significant growth of 4.8% in German industrial orders in February 2023, as reported by the federal statistics office, was influenced by the declining energy prices. After the import ban on Russian oil in December 2022, the share of Russia oil in total oil imports of Germany plummeted from 36.5% in January 2022 to a mere 0.1% in January 2023. Germany successfully mitigated this decline by diversifying its oil imports from countries such as Norway, the UAE, the UK, the US, and Kazakhstan.Sadaf Ambari, Economic Research Analyst at GlobalData, comments that Germany's shift towards renewable energy and diversification of oil imports has not only mitigated the impact of the ban on Russian oil imports but also sets a path toward a less fossil fuel-dependent economy.“By prioritizing renewables and reducing bureaucratic obstacles in renewable energy production, Germany has the potential to build a sustainable and resilient energy sector for the future,” concludes Ambari. It is also noteworthy that Germany's low-risk profile, ranking 12th out of 153 nations in the GlobalData Country Risk Index, reflects its resilience and stability amidst economic challenges. The country’s risk score is lower in the parameters of macroeconomics, political, legal, technology and infrastructure and legal risk when compared to the average of West European nations.source : https://www.adsalecprj.com/web/news/article_details?id=61855&lang=1edit : handler

There was no choice but canceling NPE still a big dealThe decision to cancel the huge NPE2021 show, or at least halt the in-person side of it, is a big deal in the plastics industry. The organizers of the triennial show didn't really have a choice. With daily death counts from COVID-19 setting records in our almost yearlong pandemic, exhibitors were increasingly nervous that the May show could be held safely and that it could be commercially successful. Some, like Novatec Inc. CEO Conrad Bessemer, publicly worried that vaccines could not be rolled out to enough people in time. In an email to show organizers, he asked if an event that normally draws 50,000-plus registered attendees risked becoming a superspreader event. So the show organizer, the Plastics Industry Association, said it had to cancel the show to protect public health. Not that it was an easy decision. We think it was good they made the decision on the early side, more than five months out from the May 17-21 show, so companies can plan and minimize sunk costs like hotels and exhibition planning. For those not familiar with what an NPE looks like, think of it like a once-every-three-years version of CES, the electronics show in Las Vegas, but for North America's plastics industry. It's five days of technology introductions, catching up with colleagues and friends, and networking at conferences on challenges common to the whole industry. As well it's a chance to kick the tires on potential equipment and see what the 2,100 exhibiting companies have to offer as they spread out over the entire Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., one of the largest venues in the United States. Some argue NPE is often an economic shot in the arm for the industry. Bill Wood, the Plastics News economics editor and industry consultant, said historical data from previous NPEs points to double-digit increases in machinery investment in an NPE year, compared with the previous year. (Disclosure: Plastics News has published daily issues at NPE since 1991, so it's a business opportunity for us as well.) Given the uncertainty of the pandemic, it's hard to know what, if any, economic impact there'll be from canceling this year. But if the pandemic had been under control enough to have NPE, you have to think the show would have had a special meaning this year and help people look forward to better times. The next NPE won't be until 2024. By then, it'll be six years from the last one. Show organizers say the logistics of the huge event make it impossible to reschedule. It requires nearly a month when you add in setup and teardown time, plus only two venues, Orlando and Chicago, have the required electrical capacity. We did learn this week that at one point, a window opened to potentially have a half-size version of the show in November in Orlando, in only one of show halls. But without certainty that the virus would be controlled by then and challenges in shrinking the event by 50 percent, organizers said they did not see that as a viable option. Questions remain about the impact of canceling. For starters, how will the show handle refunds of money already paid by exhibitors? From what we're hearing, that could be contentious. The plastics association told exhibitors in a Jan. 8 email that it won't be refunding deposits until it settles NPE2021 obligations to the convention center, hotels and others and addresses financial implications for the association. Companies are understandably very interested in details. The association is asking for patience. There are implications for the plastics association's budget. It's one of the industry's two-largest trade groups in Washington, and it depends on proceeds from NPE to fund up to half its budget. It says it has reserves to last into 2022, but it's likely going to face decisions. So canceling NPE has implications for how one of the main trade groups is able to represent the sector. Most exhibiting companies we talked to said they supported the decision to cancel the show. A few suggested exhibitor pressure played a big role in pushing the plastics association, although association leaders said health and safety remained uppermost in their minds. They said the increasingly bleak pandemic situation as December rolled on was key. You also wonder what fallout big shows like NPE will face post-pandemic. We've all gotten more used to attending events remotely. We miss in-person work conferences, but we've also learned it's possible sometimes to get at least some of what we want from the virtual alternative. It's certainly cheaper, and in some ways it allows us to be part of more events than we could have before. So you wonder what that could mean for trade shows down the line, too. I guess all we know right now is there won't be an NPE2021. Beyond that, like many things in our pandemic world, it's wait and see. Toloken is a Plastics News assistant managing editor and author of the BRICS and Plastics blog. Fakuma called off for 2020The organizer of the Fakuma trade show has announced to exhibitors that it is canceling the 2020 event, which had been scheduled for Oct. 13-17 in Friedrichshafen, Germany. The decision comes as a growing number of exhibitors, including major plastics machinery makers, have announced that they were not going to actively participate at the trade show because of the COVID-19 pandemic.P.E. Schall GmbH & Co. KG, the show organizer, sent exhibitors an email announcing the decision July 23. It noted that the 2021 show would have been the 27th Fakuma. That distinction will now fall to the next Fakuma, which is scheduled for Oct. 12-16, 2021."This decision is based on rational thinking and our sense of responsibility, and we feel certain that you'll support our choice," the email to exhibitors said. Plastics News and its European partner Sustainable Plastics were Fakuma exhibitors, and planned to produce English-language daily newspapers at the trade fair.Schall officials said they thought that Fakuma could have been held safely in 2020, with some changes."Together with all involved parties, we struggled for a long time to amend the general conditions demanded by the corona pandemic in such a way that Fakuma 2020 could have been successful. A hygiene and security concept was developed for safe event promotion expressly to this end," the email said."But current uncertainties, for example with regard to sending an adequate number of employees to the event, are making it necessary to look to the year 2021 with pragmatism and confidence."The email said exhibitors will soon receive details on participation in a virtual Fakuma, where they can highlight innovations and products.Fakuma is the latest in a long string of international plastics industry events that have either canceled or postponed since the March, or transformed to virtual events. Fakuma, which is held annually except for during K show years, would have been the largest plastics show in Europe in 2020.Fakuma seemed likely to cancel or postpone when a growing number of major plastics machinery makers announced that they would not actively participate in the show. Austria's Wittmann Group was the first, on June 22. It was followed by Engel, KraussMaffei, Sumitomo and others, including auxiliary equipment and materials suppliers.source: https://www.plasticsnews.com/news/fakuma-called-2020

Medical plastics to command the spotlight: High tech to shine at CHINAPLAS 2019An estimated total of over 3,500 exhibitors from all over the world will take part in CHINAPLAS 2019.Photo: 12Benefiting from economic growth, population expansion and an intensifying aging phenomenon, coupled with everyone’s increasing concern about health issues, the global demand for medical devices is increasing sharply. In North America, it is expected the spending on healthcare will register a growth of 5.9% from 2017 to 2025. In Europe, rising demand for both dental and physical body implants is expected to have a positive impact on the medical plastics industry. In the Middle East and Africa, meanwhile, demand for medical components such as disposable gloves, syringes, and catheters will drive the market. In China, the industry also expects to see substantial growth. This can be attributed to increasing private and public healthcare expenditures, and an increasing geriatric population, among other factors. In addition, at the beginning of 2019 three commercial giants –– Baidu, Tencent, and Huawei –– announced their entry into the medical device market. Experts project huge demand for Chinese medical devices as well as for high-end medical equipment. In response to the trend, CHINAPLAS 2019, with focus on “Smart Manufacturing, Innovative Materials, Green & Circular Solutions”, is turning a spotlight on medical plastics sector. CHINAPLAS will provide an opportunity for upstream and downstream of medical companies to network and learn about best practices, leading to a “safe, high precision manufacturing, portable” medical industry.Novel materials support medical product makersHigh-precision medical device products also place demanding requirements on the raw materials needed to make them. Device makers are seeking safer and more environmentally friendly materials, to include finding ways to use biocompatible and even biodegradable resins.Clearly a new PP resin Lotte Chemical, for example, has recently developed its latest compound –– Transparent Impact-Resistance Polypropylene, or TIPP, using a new polymerization process technology. It offers a combination of transparency and impact resistance equal to that of a conventional random copolymer polypropylene, as well as whitening resistance than general impact polypropylene.TIPP, which will debut at CHINAPLAS 2019, is suitable for transparent applications or for mixing with a masterbatch to produce high-gloss products, such as clear containers by injection molding or blow molding, transparent films, medical syringes and medical infusion bags, infusion bottles, etc.In addition, Lotte Chemical also will be promoting its safe and clean high-performance health and wellness solutions at the show. These materials can be developed into a wide range of medical products suitable for contact with the human body. While retaining excellent chemical resistance and impact strength, the products also meet strict international medical specifications.Self-lubricating liquid silicone rubberNeedle-free access valves represent a new trend in infusion medical devices. The joint valve is an elastic joint made of silicone, which needs to fit snugly against the plastic parts of the outer wall and be able to withstand repeated needle insertions and removals during use. Therefore, self-lubrication is vital. Momentive Performance Material Inc. is going to introduce their medical-grade, self-lubricating liquid silicone rubber at CHINAPLAS 2019, which will enable needleless connector manufacturers to meet their required performance requirements.PEEK and PPSUThe high-end performance resins PEEK (Polyetheretherketone) and PPSU (Polyphenylsulfone) play an irreplaceable role in the medical field. This is due to their excellent corrosion resistance, high purity, great strength, X-ray transparency, light weight, endurance of repetitive high-temperature steam disinfection, and high biocompatibility.Junhua ChinaPEEK extends the application of PEEK and PPSU materials in medical devices to areas including automatic surgical robots, external fixation brackets, intramedullary nail surgery sights, skull surgery sights, PEEK dental instruments, surgical aids, joint surgical instruments and medical testing equipment, 3D printing, surgical beds and other medical accessories, and provide comprehensive technical solutions for the development and production of orthopaedic medical special plastics.Smart manufacturing has a role to playMedical device manufacturing is a multi-disciplinary, knowledge-based, capital-intensive, high-tech industry. It integrates different state-of-the-art technologies, combining traditional industries with biomedical engineering, information technology, and modern medical imaging technologies, resulting in high entrance barriers. The ability to meet such requirements provides one benchmark for determining the level of manufacturing sophistication and high-tech development a country has attained.Riding on the wave of “Made in China 2025”, China's ability to manufacture precision and mechatronics equipment has been strengthened, propelling the energetic development of the medical device industry.Stringent requirements for equipment precision and environmental cleanliness are imposed on medical device manufacturers. The JE Series precision automatic injection molding machine by Powerjet Plastic Machinery Co., Ltd. is characterized by its fast speed, stability, energy saving, cleanliness, and precision. It has no hydraulic oil leakage and is a better choice for the production requirements of clean workshop environment for medical equipment and disposables packaging, in addition to satisfying needs related to unmanned, automated and intelligent production. The medical puncture needle mold is an example of a precision injection mold, and since the resulting product made from it comes into contact with the human body, the product inspection requirements are very strict. JT Mold Technology Co., Ltd. will introduce Asia’s first Hot-Runner Side Gate mold during CHINAPLAS 2019. This mold set is made of German 2083 steel, which ensures minimal thermal deformation and excellent discharge performance. It employs the firm’s new 48-hole, full Hot-Runner Side Gate System technology, and can match the product core with the cavity. With the rise in popularity of interventional therapy techniques, the demand for precision medical tubing is increasing. As an industry leader in polymer processing, Davis-Standard understands the extrusion demands of the global medical tube market, to include strict tolerances, high speeds, cleanroom-specific equipment, and good process support.Davis-Standard can design a complete turnkey extrusion system according to a customer’s strict product requirements. Its Connecticut laboratory in the United States supports the development of new medical tubing applications such as microcavity tubes, multi-lumen tubes, and taper tubing, as well as the ability to process tubing with alternative polymers.Living standards have been improving while people also are becoming more aware of health issues, leading to a considerable demand for home medical equipment. Many tests and treatments can be done at home, rendering some hospital visits unnecessary. As a result, miniaturized, portable medical devices are in growing demand. Additionally, devices that are more compact and flexible are also desired for use in minimally invasive surgeries and precision medical treatments. At the same time, welding process requirements are getting more stringent, especially for small, thin-wall medical products that require a high degree of assembly precision. Branson Ultrasonics (Shanghai) Co. Ltd.'s GSX platform provides advanced control and precise positioning of the mechatronic control system with pressure stepping and better process control, enabling higher energy-transfer capacity, high-quality welding, lower scrap rates, and increased production.Concurrent event - Medical Plastics ConnectDuring CHINAPLAS 2019, the show organizer is offering “Medical Plastics Connect”, a prominent event that consists of multiple components –– “Medical Plastics Forum”, “Medical Plastics Pop-up Kiosk”, “Medical Plastics Guidebook” and “Medical Plastics Guided Tour”. The event has been structured to empower manufacturers of medical devices, disposables and pharmaceutical packaging with advanced solutions and hot technologies. This prominent concurrent event will assemble renowned suppliers from around the world, along with industry associations and leading medical device manufacturers to create an effective and efficient communication platform. It is expected that the show will attract more than 180,000 professional visitors from 150 countries and regions to visit CHINAPLAS! Many well-known enterprises in the industry have already signed up for the show. As of now, enterprises that have confirmed their participation in this annual event include Medtronic, Siemens, MicroPort, Mindray, Baxter, Wego, Kindly Group, SonoScape, Baihe Medical, Royal Philips, Tuoren, Bain Medical, etc.China Plastic & Rubber Journal (CPRJ) Source: China Plastic & Rubber Journaledit: plastics handler  http://www.ihandler.co.kr
